Udupi Sri Krishna Matha: Where to Stay

Most pilgrims stay within walking distance of the Matha in Udupi's Car Street, Rathabeedhi and temple-precinct area, where budget lodges, guesthouses and the Ashta Mathas' own boarding facilities cluster. A wider range of mid-range and business hotels sits along NH66 and in nearby Manipal (about 4 to 5 km), a university town with more restaurants and comfortable rooms. For a coastal base, Malpe beach is roughly 5 to 6 km away with resorts and sea-facing stays. Booking ahead is essential during Paryaya, Janmashtami and the December to January season.

The simplest choice is to stay inside the temple orbit, in Udupi's Car Street and Rathabeedhi precinct, where budget lodges, pilgrim guesthouses and the Ashta Mathas' own boarding facilities put you within a short walk of the Navagraha Kitiki for early-morning darshan. This is the practical base during festivals when you want to be on foot.

For more comfort, Manipal, the university town about 4 to 5 km away, offers mid-range and business hotels and a much wider choice of restaurants, while Malpe beach, roughly 5 to 6 km out, provides sea-facing resorts if you want to combine the pilgrimage with the coast. Rooms tighten sharply during Paryaya, Janmashtami and the December to January peak, so book well ahead for those dates.
