Reaching by rail, road and air
ModePointDistanceNotes
AirBhuj Airport (BHJ)Approx 160 to 165 kmNearest airport, with flights from Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad international airport is roughly 490 to 500 km away for wider connections.
TrainBhuj railway stationApprox 160 kmNearest railhead, connected to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Dadar, Pune and Palanpur. Hire a taxi from Bhuj for the onward run.
RoadFrom Bhuj via Nakhatrana and Narayan SarovarApprox 160 km, 4 to 5 hoursState roads through interior Kutch. No frequent public buses right to Koteshwar, so a private car or taxi is the practical option. Koteshwar sits about 2 km beyond Narayan Sarovar.
Local hopLakhpat fort to KoteshwarApprox 15 kmMany travellers pair Koteshwar and Narayan Sarovar with the historic Lakhpat fort walls on the same coastal loop.

Getting here is genuinely a journey, and that remoteness is part of the appeal. There is no airport, no railway station and no dense bus network at the coast. Everything funnels through Bhuj, roughly 160 km inland, which is the last place with reliable flights, trains and hotels.

From Bhuj the road runs west through Nakhatrana and on toward Narayan Sarovar, a four to five hour drive on state highways through sparse Kutch scrubland. Public transport this far out is thin and awkward, so nearly everyone hires a taxi in Bhuj or joins a yatra package that bundles a vehicle. Fuel up and carry water and snacks; services along the route are limited.

Koteshwar sits about two kilometres beyond Narayan Sarovar, so the two are always done together, and most itineraries also fold in the crumbling fort walls of Lakhpat, about 15 km away. If you are coming from outside Gujarat, the cleanest routing is a flight or train to Bhuj, one night there, and a full-day car trip out to the coast and back.
