Jwala Ji (Jwalamukhi Devi Temple): How to Reach

Jwala Ji: How to ReachJwalamukhi town sits on a spur in the Kangra Valley, well connected by road from the Kangra-Dharamshala belt but off the broad-gauge rail line, so most pilgrims arrive by bus or taxi after a train or flight into the wider region. The nearest railway station is Jwalamukhi Road station (Ranital) (approx 20 km).

Nearest railway (narrow gauge)Jwalamukhi Road station (Ranital)approx 20 kmOn the scenic Pathankot to Jogindernagar narrow-gauge line; slow but atmospheric. Shared taxis and buses cover the last leg to the temple.
Nearest broad-gauge railheadPathankot Junctionapprox 120 km (approx)Main-line trains from Delhi, Amritsar and beyond terminate here; hire a taxi or take a Himachal Roadways bus onward via Kangra.
Nearest airportKangra (Gaggal) Airport near Dharamshalaapprox 46 km (approx)Limited flights from Delhi. Chandigarh and Amritsar airports are the larger fallback options, roughly 200 km away.
Road from nearest cityKangra town / DharamshalaKangra approx 30 km; Dharamshala approx 56 kmRegular HRTC buses and taxis run from Kangra, Dharamshala, Palampur and Pathankot; the temple is a short uphill walk from the bus stand and parking.

The catch with Jwala Ji is that it sits just off the broad-gauge network, so the journey usually has two legs: reach the Kangra-Dharamshala region, then finish by road. The nearest station is the narrow-gauge Jwalamukhi Road (Ranital) halt, about 20 km out on the slow, scenic Pathankot to Jogindernagar toy-train line, charming but not fast. Serious rail travellers from Delhi, Amritsar or the plains usually alight at Pathankot Junction, roughly 120 km away (approx), and drive or bus in from there.

By air, the closest strip is Kangra (Gaggal) Airport near Dharamshala, about 46 km away (approx), with limited flights mainly from Delhi. When those are full or pricey, pilgrims fall back on Chandigarh or Amritsar airports, both around 200 km out, and continue by taxi or the reliable HRTC bus network.

Road is the workhorse here. Jwalamukhi is well linked by Himachal Roadways buses and shared taxis from Kangra (approx 30 km), Dharamshala (approx 56 km), Palampur, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot. The temple stands a short uphill walk above the bus stand and parking area, lined with stalls selling chunris, misri and prasad, so the final approach is on foot.
