By car or taxi the drive is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours; state and private buses run frequently from Chennai's CMBT terminus and from Bengaluru, dropping you at the Kanchipuram bus stand barely a kilometre from the temple.

By rail, Kanchipuram Railway Station lies about 2 km from the shrine on the Chengalpattu-Arakkonam line, with connections toward Chennai, Tirupati and Pondicherry. Frequency is modest compared with the buses, so check timings, but the station is handy if you are arriving from Tirupati on a combined Shakti-and-Venkateswara circuit.

The nearest airport is Chennai International (approx 72 km), well served by domestic and international flights. From the airport, the simplest route is a pre-booked taxi, or a train/bus hop into Kanchipuram. Once in town, autos are the standard way to cover the last stretch to Kamakshi Amman Sannathi Street.
