The day opens with the Tiruvanandal puja between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM, when the deities are woken, and closes with the ritual that everyone talks about: the Palli Arai, or bedchamber puja, around 9:15 PM to 10:00 PM. In it the processional idol of Sundareswarar is carried from his own shrine to Meenakshi's chamber so the divine couple can rest together for the night, and pilgrims line the corridors to watch the palanquin pass. It is the single most atmospheric moment in the temple's daily cycle.
Between those bookends, the Uchikkala or noon puja from about 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM is the other big draw, with abhishekam and chanting for both deities, and there is an evening puja soon after the 4:00 PM reopening. Fridays add a special procession of Meenakshi on a golden palanquin. Individual puja times drift by 15 to 30 minutes and several here are approximate, so treat the schedule as a guide rather than a stopwatch and ask the temple staff for the exact night-puja start on the day you visit.
