Road (car)From Hyderabad via KalwakurthyApprox 213 kmScenic forest ghat drive; the ghat road through the Srisailam tiger reserve typically restricts night movement.

Srisailam is deliberately remote, perched inside the Nallamala hills and the Srisailam tiger reserve, so there is neither a railway station nor an airport in the town. The nearest railhead is Markapur Road, about 85 km away, from where pilgrims continue by bus or taxi; travellers on long-distance trains often prefer Nandyal or Kurnool despite the greater distance because of better connectivity.

By air, Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is the practical gateway at about 200 km, a five to six hour drive; the newer Kurnool (Orvakal) airport is closer at roughly 180 km but has far fewer flights. From Hyderabad the road route runs about 213 km via Kalwakurthy and climbs the forest ghat into Srisailam.

Road is how most people actually arrive. APSRTC and TSRTC operate frequent direct buses to the Srisailam bus stand, which sits close to the temple, and shared taxis are common. One important caution: the ghat road through the tiger reserve is a protected forest stretch and vehicle movement is usually restricted after dark, so plan your journey to reach Srisailam before nightfall.
