Bodh Gaya is one of the easiest small pilgrimage towns in India to reach because it has its own airport. Gaya International Airport sits only about 11 km away and receives seasonal Buddhist charter flights from Bangkok, Yangon, Colombo and Thimphu, plus domestic links through Delhi and Kolkata. When those are not running, Patna airport about 135 km north is the reliable year-round gateway, roughly a three-hour road transfer.
By rail, Gaya Junction about 13 km away is a major stop on the Grand Chord line, with direct trains from Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi and Patna, and it is the arrival point for most Indian pilgrims. From the station, autos, taxis and shared jeeps reach the temple in 25 to 40 minutes. By road, Bodh Gaya connects to Gaya city in about 13 km and to Patna in roughly 100 to 110 km via national highway. Because the last stretch runs through town, allow buffer time in festival season when traffic near the temple slows to a crawl.
