Daily worship at Bhavnath is comparatively understated: a morning puja and abhishek of the swayambhu lingam soon after opening, continuous jal and bilva-patra offerings through the day, and an evening aarti before the temple settles for the night. There is no elaborate multi-slot aarti board here, which suits the temple's character as a working pilgrimage shrine rather than a managed tourist temple.
The ritual that defines Bhavnath is the Maha Shivratri midnight mahapuja. As the akharas complete their Ravedi and the Naga sadhus take their holy dip in Mrigi Kund, the sanctum hosts its grand worship of Bhavnath Mahadev at midnight. This is the single most important act of devotion in the temple's year, and the atmosphere, with dhuni fires, conch and drum, is unlike anything on a normal evening.
Because exact morning and evening aarti clock times are not officially fixed and can drift with priest availability and season, pilgrims wanting to attend a specific aarti should ask at the temple a day ahead rather than rely on a printed schedule.
