How to reach Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple
Gokarna sits on the Konkan coast in northern Karnataka, roughly midway between Goa and Mangaluru. The temple is a short walk inland from the main beach, at the end of Car Street.

Dress code & temple rules
Traditional dress is enforced for close darshan. Men are asked to remove shirts and upper garments and wear a dhoti or mundu, bare-chested, to enter the inner sanctum.
Women wear a saree, or a salwar-kameez with a dupatta. Avoid shorts, short skirts and sleeveless or revealing clothing given the temple's orthodox character.
Leather items (belts, wallets, bags) are typically left outside. Footwear is removed well before the entrance.
Photography is restricted inside the sanctum. Follow the priests' direction, particularly around the Atma-linga where devotees reach through the pedestal hole to touch the top of the linga.

Best time to visit & festivals
The comfortable window is the post-monsoon cool season, roughly November to February, when the coast is dry and the sea calm enough to pair darshan with the beaches. Maha Shivaratri is the spiritual peak but also the most crowded.
