Gokarna is a Konkan-coast town, so the cleanest arrival is by train to Gokarna Road, about 10 km inland, served by Konkan Railway trains such as the Matsyagandha Express and the Bengaluru to Karwar Express. The station is small and set away from town, so line up an auto or the connecting bus in advance; there is a retiring room for pre-dawn arrivals. From the north, many pilgrims coming off Goa simply take a bus or taxi down NH66.
By air you are choosing between Goa's Dabolim airport and Hubballi, each roughly 140 to 165 km out, with Mangaluru International farther south around 230 to 240 km but better connected for long-haul travellers. By road the anchor distances are Karwar at approx 59 km, Mangaluru at approx 238 km and Bengaluru at approx 483 km, the last usually done as an overnight bus. Once in town, the temple is a walk, not a drive: vehicles stop short of Car Street and you cover the final lane on foot past the shops and the Maha Ganapati shrine.
