Gokarna keeps a two-session temple day shaped by the coast and by ritual, not by the clock alone. The sanctum opens around 6:00 AM for the morning suprabhata and the first abhishekas, stays busiest through the pre-noon hours, then shuts around 12:30 PM after the madhyahna naivedya so the deity can rest and the priests can eat. It reopens near 5:00 PM and closes around 8:30 PM after the evening pooja. Treat every figure here as approx; the temple has never run to airport punctuality.
The practical lesson for a pilgrim is to front-load the morning. Personal sevas, the Rudrabhisheka and the closest contact with the Atma-linga all happen before noon, so a visitor who arrives at 4:00 PM expecting to sponsor a full abhisheka will usually be told to come back at dawn. If your schedule is tight, build the temple around that morning window and use the shut afternoon for the beaches or Koti Tirtha. On Maha Shivaratri the whole rhythm dissolves into near-continuous worship, and normal timings do not apply.
