Sringeri Sharada Peetham (Sri Sharadamba Temple): How to Reach

Sringeri Sharada Peetham: How to ReachSringeri sits deep in the Malnad hills of the Western Ghats, so the last leg is always by road through ghat country. The nearest railway station is Shivamogga (Shimoga) railway station (approx 105 km).

Sringeri is a ghat-country destination, so plan the journey in two halves: reach a gateway city, then climb into the Malnad. From the coast, Mangaluru (approx 110 km, about 4 hours via Karkala and Agumbe) and Udupi are the natural bases; from the interior, Shivamogga (approx 105 km) and Chikkamagaluru (approx 100 km) feed in through Koppa and coffee estates. Bengaluru sits roughly 360 km away, an 8 hour haul best broken overnight.

There is no railway station or airport in Sringeri itself. The nearest railheads are Shivamogga on the interior side and Udupi on the Konkan coast line, each needing an onward bus or taxi. Mangaluru International Airport, about 110 km away, is the closest airport, with Kempegowda International at Bengaluru as the long-haul option.

Buses make this easy and cheap. KSRTC and private operators run direct services from Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Udupi, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Dharmasthala, Kollur and Koppa. If you are temple-hopping, note that Kollur, Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya all connect by the same bus network, which is why so many pilgrims chain them into one Malnad circuit.
