| Mode | Point | Distance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train | Hosapete (Hospet) Junction | approx 12 to 13 km | The practical railhead for Hampi, with links to Hubballi, Guntakal, Bengaluru, and the Hampi Express from Bengaluru. Auto, taxi, and local bus run onward to the temple. |
| Air | Jindal Vijayanagar (Vidyanagar) Airport, Toranagallu | approx 35 to 40 km | Nearest airport but limited connectivity. Hubballi Airport (approx 145 to 160 km) and Kempegowda International, Bengaluru (approx 350 km) offer far wider flight options. |
| Road | From Hosapete / Bengaluru | approx 13 km / approx 350 km | Frequent buses and shared autos from Hosapete bus stand drop you near the bazaar. Vehicles are restricted in the core Hampi zone, so expect a short walk to the temple gopuram. |
There is no railway station or airport inside Hampi, so the journey almost always pivots on Hosapete (Hospet), the busy town about 13 km west. Hosapete Junction is the working railhead, connected to Hubballi, Guntakal, Bengaluru and beyond; the overnight Hampi Express from Bengaluru is the classic approach. From the station, autos and taxis run straight to the temple, and cheap KSRTC and local buses ply the Hosapete to Hampi route through the day.
By air, the nearest strip is Jindal Vijayanagar (Vidyanagar) Airport at Toranagallu, roughly 35 to 40 km away, but its schedule is thin. Most fliers use Hubballi (around 145 to 160 km) or simply fly into Bengaluru (around 350 km) and continue overland. By road, Hampi is well linked to Hosapete and onward to Bengaluru, Hubballi, and Goa. Note that motor vehicles are restricted in the protected core of Hampi, so you will be dropped near the bazaar and walk the last stretch to the gopuram, an easy few minutes on foot.
