The airport, Tiruchirappalli International (TRZ), is about 15 km south of the temple and handles domestic routes plus Gulf and Southeast Asian flights; a taxi covers the distance in roughly 40 minutes.
By rail, the island has its own small Srirangam station about 3 km from the temple, but only selected trains halt there. Serious long-distance travellers should aim for Tiruchirappalli Junction, about 9 km away, one of Tamil Nadu's better-connected hubs with trains to Chennai, Madurai, Bengaluru and beyond. From the Junction, city buses and autos to Srirangam are constant.
By road, Trichy's Central bus stand is only 7 to 12 km from the gopurams, and municipal buses to Srirangam leave every few minutes through the day, which makes this the cheapest and simplest option. Chennai is about 320 to 325 km away, a five to six hour drive on good highway. Once you are in Srirangam the temple's towers act as a landmark, and the final stretch through the market streets is best done on foot or by auto.
