Kalighat is one of the easiest major temples in India to reach because it is embedded in Kolkata's metro network. Kalighat Metro Station on the Blue Line sits roughly half a kilometre from the temple; you surface into the neighbourhood and walk the last stretch through a dense bazaar of flower-sellers, sindoor stalls and sweet shops. That walk, five to ten minutes, is part of the experience.

For those coming by long-distance train, Sealdah and Kolkata (Chitpur) stations are about 5 to 7 km away and Howrah Junction, the largest terminus, is roughly 10 km across the river. From any of them a taxi or the metro will bring you in. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport lies approx 17 to 19 km north, usually 45 to 75 minutes by cab depending on Kolkata's notorious traffic.

A practical tip: do not try to drive right up to the temple. The surrounding lanes are narrow, one-way and clogged by the puja market, and parking is a headache. Take the metro if you can, or have a cab drop you a couple of blocks out and walk in. App cabs, yellow taxis, buses and autos all serve the Kalighat and Rashbehari area heavily.
