Kalighat Kali Temple: Nearby Temples & Tirths

Kalighat Kali: Nearby Temples & TirthsKalighat Kali sits within reach of Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati, Jagannath Temple, Puri, so most pilgrims combine them into one trip.

The natural companion to Kalighat is Dakshineswar Kali Temple, roughly 15 to 18 km north on the bank of the Hooghly. Where Kalighat is ancient, cramped and market-wrapped, Dakshineswar is a grand nine-spired complex forever linked to Sri Ramakrishna, who served as its priest. Many Kali devotees pair the two in a single Kolkata trip, one for its raw antiquity, the other for its riverside expanse and Ramakrishna associations.

Beyond the city, Kalighat sits within the great eastern circuit of Shakta pilgrimage. Kamakhya in Guwahati, the most revered Shakti Peeth of the northeast where the yoni of Sati is worshipped, is a common onward journey for those drawn deeper into goddess worship, though it is around a thousand kilometres away by rail or air.

Jagannath Temple at Puri, roughly 500 km down the coast in Odisha, rounds out an eastern-India pilgrimage for many Bengali families, combining the fierce mother-goddess devotion of Kalighat with the joyous Vaishnava worship of Lord Jagannath. Together these give a visitor a full arc from Kali to Krishna across the east.
