How to reach Jagannath Temple, Puri
Puri sits on the Odisha coast, well linked by its own broad-gauge railhead and by road to the state capital Bhubaneswar, which holds the nearest airport. The temple stands on Grand Road (Bada Danda) in the heart of the old town.

Dress code & temple rules
Dress modestly and traditionally; the temple discourages jeans, shorts, skirts and overtly Western wear, and many devotees wear dhoti-kurta or saree/salwar kameez.
Footwear must be removed and left outside; cloakrooms and shops near the gates hold shoes and other items.
Mobile phones, cameras, electronic gadgets and all photography inside the temple are strictly prohibited.
Leather goods (belts, wallets, bags) are not allowed inside the temple complex.
Entry to the inner temple is restricted to Hindus; foreign nationals and non-Hindus can view it from the rooftop of the nearby Raghunandan Library.
Beware of aggressive pandas soliciting large donations; you are not obliged to pay fixed amounts for darshan.

Best time to visit & festivals
Winter, from October to February, brings the most comfortable weather to coastal Puri and is ideal for a calm darshan. The great draw, though, is the summer festival season peaking with Rath Yatra, when the town swells to lakhs of pilgrims and the deities come out onto the Grand Road.

Where to stay
Puri is a full-fledged pilgrimage and beach town with lodging for every budget, most of it clustered between the temple on Grand Road and the sea. Dharamshalas, maths (monastic guest houses) and simple pilgrim lodges sit close to the Singhadwara for those who want to walk to early Mangala Aarti, while the beachfront belt along Chakra Tirtha Road and Marine Drive holds mid-range hotels and a few resorts. Odisha Tourism's Panthanivas and numerous private hotels handle the festival rush, but rooms sell out and rates spike sharply around Rath Yatra, so book weeks ahead if you travel in June or July.
