Puri is the terminus of its own railway line, which makes the train the most straightforward approach for most pilgrims. Puri Railway Station lies about 3 km from Grand Road, a few minutes by auto or cycle-rickshaw, and carries direct services from Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and other hubs, several timed for the festival season.
There is no airport in Puri itself; fliers land at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, roughly 60 km away, and drive down in about an hour and a half on NH316. By road, Bhubaneswar to Puri is a comfortable 60-odd km on a well-paved highway, with the older route running through Pipili, famous for its appliqu craft. Once in town, the temple's Singhadwara (Lion Gate) opens onto Grand Road; leave shoes, phones and leather at a cloakroom or a trusted shop before you approach the gate.
