Puri anchors a compact circuit of Odisha's greatest monuments. The most rewarding day trip is the Konark Sun Temple, about 35 km up the coast, a 13th-century masterpiece shaped as the sun god's chariot with twenty-four carved stone wheels and a UNESCO World Heritage listing. The marine drive between Puri and Konark, past Chandrabhaga beach, is a scenic run in itself.
About 60 km inland lies Bhubaneswar, the temple-city, crowned by the towering Lingaraja Temple, the finest of its many Kalinga-style shrines dedicated to Shiva. Together, Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar form the classic Golden Triangle of Odisha tourism. Pilgrims willing to travel further east often pair the trip with Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, though that lies a long journey away in Jharkhand rather than a same-day outing.
