Getting to Vijayawada is the easy part; the city is a national transport hub. Vijayawada Junction, about 4 km from the hill, is one of the busiest railway junctions in the country, sitting on the main Chennai to Howrah and Chennai to Delhi lines, so trains from almost anywhere in India pass through. Gannavaram airport, roughly 20 to 25 km out, adds direct flights from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi. By road, Hyderabad is about 275 km via NH65 and buses run constantly.
The last mile is the part worth planning. Because the shrine sits on Indrakeeladri, you either drive up the motorable ghat road that curls to the hilltop gopuram, or you park at the base and climb the stone steps on foot, which many pilgrims do deliberately as a vow. Dedicated temple buses shuttle up the ghat road roughly every 20 minutes, which is the simplest option if you are carrying children or elders.
On festival days the ghat road is often closed to private vehicles and everyone is funnelled onto shuttle buses or the footpath, with parking pushed down into the city. If you are visiting during Dasara, assume you will not be driving your own car up the hill, and budget extra time for the walk and the token queue.
