Vijayawada is a natural base for a wider Andhra pilgrimage circuit. The closest heavyweight is Mallikarjuna at Srisailam, roughly 230 km away, a rare site that is both a Jyotirlinga of Shiva and a Shakti Peetha, set on a forested hill above the same Krishna river that flows past Indrakeeladri. It pairs beautifully with Kanaka Durga as a Shiva-Shakti journey.
Further south, about 380 km away, lies the great cluster around Tirupati. Tirumala's Venkateswara temple is the most visited shrine on earth, and nearby Srikalahasti is the Vayu (air) element temple of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams, famous for its Rahu-Ketu dosha remedy pujas. Many devotees route a single trip through Vijayawada, Tirupati and Srikalahasti.
These are onward journeys of several hours rather than day trips, so treat them as legs of a longer itinerary. If your time is short, Srisailam is the most sensible add-on from Vijayawada; if you have three or four days, the Tirupati leg rewards the distance.
