Ambaji's geography is the first thing to plan around: it is tucked into the northern tip of Gujarat where the Aravallis roll into Rajasthan, so the most useful transport gateways are not in Gujarat's interior. Abu Road, the nearest railway station at roughly 20 to 22 km, actually lies in Rajasthan and is the single best arrival point by train, with long-distance services from Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and southern India.
By air there is no nearby airport; Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, about 185 km south, is the practical choice, followed by a four to five hour road transfer. Many travellers combine Ambaji with Mount Abu, only about 45 km away, since the hill station and the Shakti Peeth sit on the same corner of the map.
Road is how the majority actually arrive. GSRTC and private buses connect Ambaji to Ahmedabad, Palanpur (about 65 km), Mehsana and the surrounding towns, and shared jeeps ply the shorter hops. If you are driving, the Ahmedabad to Palanpur to Ambaji run is the standard route, and the last stretch climbs gently into the hills.
