Modhera is a last-mile-by-road destination. The practical hub is Mehsana, about 25 km east, which sits on the main Ahmedabad-Palanpur rail and highway corridor; almost every itinerary routes through it. From Mehsana, autos and taxis run to Modhera in under an hour, and many travellers club the trip with Patan's Rani ki Vav stepwell, roughly 30-35 km further, since the two Solanki masterpieces share the same era and aesthetic.
If you are flying in, Ahmedabad's airport is the gateway at about 100 km; the drive is a comfortable 2 to 2.5 hours on good highway. Self-drivers find parking straightforward at the site. Public transport exists as far as Mehsana and Becharaji by state bus, but the final hop to Modhera village is smoother with a hired vehicle, especially if you want to reach for the early light or leave after the evening show.
