| Mode | Point | Distance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rail | Palitana railway station | Approx 3 km to Taleti base | Palitana has its own station on a branch line, roughly 48 to 56 km from Bhavnagar. Connectivity is limited, so many pilgrims rail to Bhavnagar and continue by road. |
| Air | Bhavnagar Airport (BHU) | Approx 51 to 56 km | Domestic flights link Bhavnagar to Mumbai and (seasonally) other cities. For wider connections use Ahmedabad airport, approx 215 km. |
| Road | From Bhavnagar city | Approx 50 to 56 km | Regular state and private buses plus taxis; drive is roughly 1.5 hours. |
| Road | From Ahmedabad | Approx 215 km | Roughly 4 to 5 hours by car or bus via Bhavnagar highway. |
Palitana rewards a staged approach. The realistic gateway is Bhavnagar, roughly 50 to 56 km away, which has both an airport with domestic links and a well-connected railhead; from there taxis and frequent buses run to Palitana town in about ninety minutes. Palitana does have its own small railway station about 3 km from Taleti, but it sits on a limited branch line, so checking direct train availability before relying on it is wise.
From further afield, Ahmedabad (approx 215 km, 4 to 5 hours by road) is the big metro anchor with the widest flight and train choices, and many pilgrims simply drive down from there. Once in Palitana, the last leg is from the town to Taleti, the trailhead at the foot of the steps, covered by shared autos or on foot.
The climb itself is the final stretch of the journey and cannot be motorised: no vehicle goes up the sacred hill. Those who cannot walk the roughly 3,800 steps arrange a doli at Taleti, a seat slung on poles and carried by bearers, for a negotiated price.
