The rhythm of a Somnath day is worth planning around. The gates open at 6 AM, and the first hour is the calmest darshan of the day, cool stone underfoot and the sea still grey before the crowds arrive. The three aartis at 7 AM, noon and 7 PM each briefly regulate the queue, so if you want an unhurried personal darshan aim for the mid-morning or mid-afternoon lulls rather than the aarti windows.

Evenings are the busiest stretch. The 7 PM Sandhya aarti pulls the largest gathering, and it rolls directly into the 8 PM light and sound show, so the forecourt stays packed until well after nine. Festival nights break the normal schedule entirely, with the sanctum often staying open past its usual 10 PM close for continuous worship.

One practical note repeated by regular pilgrims: published closing times vary between sources. The Trust's own FAQ says 10 PM while several travel guides say 9 PM. If you are arriving late, treat the earlier figure as your safe cutoff and confirm at the gate.
