If you can choose your dates, aim for the cool half of the year. From October to March the Charotar plain is dry and pleasant, ideal for the early-morning darshan and the outdoor waiting that festival days involve. April to June turns hot, and the monsoon, roughly July to September, brings humidity and rain to the surrounding farmland.
The calendar peaks are the two Samaiya melas on the full-moon days: Kartik Sud Poonam in November and Chaitra Sud Poonam in April. On these, lakhs of devotees converge, continuous chanting and katha fill the complex, and a fair spreads around the mandir. They are spectacular but crowded, with long queues and stretched accommodation, so book rooms well ahead. Beyond the two Poonams, Hari Jayanti around Ram Navami, Annakut the day after Diwali, and Janmashtami are all celebrated with special decoration and darshan. For a quiet, contemplative visit, come on an ordinary weekday morning outside these dates and you may have the nine-domed hall almost to yourself.
