The rare luxury at Guruvayur is that the railway station sits right in town, about half a kilometre from the East Nada, so many pilgrims arrive by train and simply walk. The catch is that Guruvayur is a branch terminus: it has good passenger connections to Thrissur and Ernakulam Junction and an overnight express to Chennai, but limited long-distance service. For most cross-country journeys you route through Thrissur junction, about 30 km away, and cover the last leg by the branch train, bus or taxi.
By air, Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is the practical choice at roughly 80 km, a two to two-and-a-half hour drive, with Calicut airport a second option about 100 km north. By road, Guruvayur lies 26 to 30 km northwest of Thrissur with very frequent KSRTC and private buses; the Guruvayur bus stand is close to the temple.
