Guruvayur runs on two tight darshan windows and a long midday shutdown, so timing your visit matters more here than at most temples. The nada (sanctum door) opens at 3:00 AM for nirmalya darshanam, the first and most prized viewing of the day, when Guruvayurappan is still adorned in the previous night's flowers, oil and sandal paste before they are removed. From then the morning flows through a sequence of abhishekams and pujas until the Ucha (noon) puja, after which the nada closes around 12:30 PM.

The temple then stays shut through the afternoon and reopens at 4:30 PM for the evening session, which builds to deeparadhana, the Athazha (supper) puja and the final Athazha Seeveli procession before the doors close for the night, roughly between 9:15 PM and 10:00 PM depending on the day. The most peaceful darshan is right at the 3 AM opening; by mid-morning and on weekends the queues lengthen sharply. Night closing and the early ritual times are approx and shift on festival and special-puja days, so confirm locally if you are timing a specific vazhipadu.
