Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple: Nearby Temples & Tirths

Guruvayur Sri Krishna: Nearby Temples & TirthsGuruvayur Sri Krishna sits within reach of Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple, Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, so most pilgrims combine them into one trip.

Guruvayur anchors a southern pilgrimage circuit rich in Vishnu and Krishna shrines. The natural companion journeys are to Sree Padmanabhaswamy in Thiruvananthapuram, where Vishnu reclines on the serpent Anantha in one of the wealthiest temples on earth, roughly 290 km south, and to the great forest pilgrimage of Sabarimala to Lord Ayyappa about 200 km southeast, which draws its millions during the winter Mandala-Makaravilakku season.

Crossing into Karnataka, the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, about 350 km north, is the other legendary Krishna temple of the south, famous for darshan of the deity through the silver-latticed Navagraha Kindi window. Many Kerala pilgrims tie Guruvayur together with these on a single trip; because darshan queues and dress rules vary at each, it helps to plan the order around the busy festival dates of each shrine rather than distance alone.
