Tiruchendur Murugan Temple (Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Devasthanam): How to Reach

Tiruchendur Murugan: How to ReachTiruchendur sits on the far south-east coast of Tamil Nadu, about 40 km south-east of Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) and roughly 60 km by road from Tirunelveli. The nearest railway station is Tiruchendur railway station (TCN) (approx 1.5 to 2 km from the temple).

ModePointDistanceNotes
TrainTiruchendur railway station (TCN)approx 1.5 to 2 km from the templeTerminus on the Tirunelveli to Tiruchendur branch line; local trains and some express services connect via Tirunelveli. Auto-rickshaws wait outside for the short hop to the temple.
Air (nearest)Tuticorin (Thoothukudi) Airport, Vagaikulamapprox 30 to 40 km by roadClosest airport but limited flights; taxis take roughly 45 to 60 minutes to the temple.
Air (better connected)Madurai Airport (IXM)approx 150 km by roadMore flights nationwide; 3 to 4 hours by car or via Tirunelveli by train.
RoadFrom Tirunelveli / Thoothukudiapprox 60 km from Tirunelveli, approx 40 km from ThoothukudiFrequent state buses and shared taxis. Tirunelveli is the main regional hub for onward long-distance connections.

The good news for pilgrims is that the last mile is genuinely short. Tiruchendur has its own railway terminus (TCN) barely 1.5 to 2 km from the sanctum, fed by the branch line from Tirunelveli, so an overnight train to Tirunelveli and a local connection or taxi puts you at the temple gate with minimal fuss. The town bus stand is equally close, with frequent state buses from Tirunelveli (approx 60 km) and Thoothukudi (approx 40 km).

Air access is the weaker link. Tuticorin Airport at roughly 30 to 40 km is nearest but thinly served, so most travellers from outside Tamil Nadu fly into Madurai (approx 150 km) and continue by road or rail via Tirunelveli, a journey of about three to four hours. If you are combining Tiruchendur with Rameswaram or Kanyakumari, a hired car along the coastal and southern highways is the most flexible option, since public transport between the pilgrim towns can be slow.
