Kashi Vishwanath is the heart of a wider Kashi circuit that traditional pilgrims complete rather than a single stop. Closest in spirit is Kaal Bhairav (about 2 km), the fierce guardian or kotwal of the city; a well-known tradition holds that a Kashi pilgrimage is incomplete without his darshan, and many take his blessing before or after Vishwanath.
Across the old city and south along the river is Sankat Mochan (about 5 km), the Hanuman temple founded in the lineage of the poet-saint Tulsidas, thronged on Tuesdays and Saturdays and beloved for its music tradition. Together with the Ganga ghats these form an easy one-to-two-day Varanasi itinerary on foot and by auto.
For those extending the pilgrimage outward, Vindhyavasini Devi at Mirzapur (about 65 km) is a major Shakti Peeth on the Ganga and a natural onward journey, often paired with Kashi to balance a Shiva darshan with a Devi one. Prayagraj's Triveni Sangam lies further west for those continuing along the river.
