Pushkar lies on the far side of the Nag Pahar ridge from Ajmer, so the journey almost always runs through Ajmer and then over the Pushkar Ghati. Ajmer Junction, about 14 km away, is the practical railhead, with trains from Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai; from the station, autos, shared jeeps and taxis climb the ghat in half an hour or so and drop you at the edge of the old town.
By air, the small Kishangarh Airport near Ajmer is closest at roughly 30 km but has limited flights, so most fliers use Jaipur International Airport, about 145 km and three hours by road. Buses and taxis from Jaipur run via NH 48 and Kishangarh. From Ajmer itself, the 14 to 15 km road link is served constantly by state buses, shared vehicles and private taxis.
The temple sits in the heart of Pushkar, a short walk from the main lake and the bazaar. Vehicles stop at the pedestrian edge of the old town; from there it is a few hundred metres on foot through the market lanes, and you leave your shoes at the stands near the entrance.
