Bengaluru is around 250 km. Chennai's proximity is why so many pilgrims arrive from the south.

Two separate ghat roads handle the up and down traffic over the seven hills; APSRTC runs frequent buses from the Tirupati Central bus stand, and private cars need a permit and pass a security checkpost. The devout option is on foot: the Alipiri Mettu path is about 9 km and roughly 3,550 steps, while Srivari Mettu is shorter and steeper at about 2.1 km. Pilgrims who walk up, often barefoot as a vow, get free luggage transport to the top and access to the Divya Darshan queue, which moves faster than ordinary Sarva Darshan.
