Full moons are the heartbeat of Dakor. Every Poonam turns the ordinary town into a fairground of faith, but Falgun Poonam, which falls with Holi in February or March, is the crescendo. Lakhs of devotees arrive, a great many on foot as padayatris walking for days from Ahmedabad and other towns, staffs and flags in hand, singing all the way. If you want to feel the raw scale of Gujarati Krishna bhakti, this is the day, though you must accept enormous crowds, long waits and stretched timings.
Sharad Purnima in October is gentler and lovelier, celebrating Radha and Krishna under the harvest moon with special shringar and processions. Janmashtami in late August or September brings midnight festivity for Krishna's birth, and Kartik Purnima and Diwali add their own festive darshans through autumn.
If your priority is a peaceful, unhurried darshan and comfortable weather for walking the Gomti lakefront and bazaar, aim for a non-Poonam weekday between October and March. Summer months are hot and best avoided, and while the monsoon does not close the temple, heavy rain can make the open lakeside approach and travel less pleasant.
