Dress code & temple rules

Dress modestly and traditionally; cover shoulders and knees. Men in kurta-pyjama, dhoti or full trousers; women in saree, salwar-kameez or a long skirt are ideal.

Remove footwear before entering; leave shoes at the stands outside the main gate.

Photography and mobile filming are not permitted inside the sanctum. Shoot the exterior carvings and the Meshwo riverfront instead.

Most pilgrims stay in simple dharamshalas and budget lodges clustered around the temple and along the Shamlaji bazaar, many within a five-minute walk of the shrine (Hotel Mangal Murti, with AC and non-AC rooms, is one commonly cited option). For more choice and better hotels, base yourself in Himmatnagar (approx 51 km) or Modasa (approx 29 km). During the Kartik Purnima fair, rooms fill fast and many tribal pilgrims camp on the riverbank, so book well ahead.
