Junagadh is the gateway, and it is easier to reach than its remote, wild skyline suggests. Junagadh Junction is the anchor: it sits on the Western Railway network with direct and connecting trains from Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai and Delhi, and it is only about 6 km from Girnar Taleti, the base of the steps. From the station an auto-rickshaw or taxi to Taleti takes fifteen to twenty minutes, and shared autos run the route cheaply through the day.

By air the picture is thinner. The small Keshod airstrip is closest at roughly 40 km but has very limited scheduled service, so most flyers route through Rajkot airport, about 100 km away, which has regular domestic connections. Ahmedabad, around 325 km and six hours by road, is the big international hub; a common plan is to fly into Ahmedabad or Rajkot and drive on. Gujarat's state highways across Saurashtra are good, and self-drive or hired cars make the Somnath-Girnar-Gir circuit easy.

By road, GSRTC and private buses reach Junagadh from every major Saurashtra town, arriving at the city bus stand about 10 km from the trek head. If you are stitching together a pilgrimage loop, Girnar pairs naturally with Somnath (about 90 km south) and the Gir lion sanctuary, and many operators sell a two or three day package covering all three from Rajkot or Ahmedabad.
