Girnar Temples (Girnar Parvat): Timings & Darshan Hours

Girnar rewards early risers more than almost any temple in Gujarat. Because you are climbing a full mountain and not just walking into a shrine, the practical 'timing' that matters is when you set off, not only when the doors open. Veteran pilgrims start between 3 and 5 AM in winter, head-torch in hand, so they clear the hardest upper flights before the sun hits the exposed stone. Reaching the Dattatreya summit and returning is a full-day effort of eight hours or more on foot; even ropeway users who skip to Ambaji still need half a day to add the Gorakhnath and Dattatreya peaks.

The individual shrines each keep their own hours. The Amba Mata and summit temples broadly track daylight, roughly 6 AM to evening, while several of the Jain temples at the first tonk shut for a midday break (around 11 AM to 3 PM) for cleaning and priest rest; the main Neminath temple usually stays open through the day. The ropeway is the hard constraint for many visitors: it runs about 8 AM to 5 PM, and the last down-cabin leaves in the early evening, so plan the descent around it rather than the shrine hours.

There is no Chaturmas-style seasonal closure here, unlike Palitana. What changes with the calendar is difficulty and crowd load: cool and clear in winter, brutally hot on the steps by late morning in summer, and slick and risky in the monsoon.
