Girnar Temples (Girnar Parvat): Where to Stay

Most pilgrims stay at Girnar Taleti (Bhavnath Taleti), the base, where Jain and Hindu dharamshalas and bhojanshalas offer clean, inexpensive rooms and simple vegetarian meals geared to yatris; there are also basic dharamshala rest houses partway up near the Jain temple complex for those who climb over two days. Junagadh city, about 6 to 10 km away, has the widest choice of budget and mid-range hotels and is the practical base if you want more comfort. Book well ahead around the Bhavnath Fair (Mahashivratri) and the Lili Parikrama, when the town and base fill completely.

Where you sleep at Girnar depends on how you want to climb. The most atmospheric choice is to stay right at Girnar Taleti (Bhavnath Taleti), the base of the steps, where Jain and Hindu dharamshalas and bhojanshalas offer plain, cheap rooms and simple sattvic meals aimed squarely at pilgrims. Staying here lets you start the ascent in the pre-dawn dark, which is exactly what experienced yatris do.

Pilgrims who want to break the climb over two days can use the basic rest houses and dharamshalas partway up, near the Jain temple complex at the first tonk, sleeping on the mountain and finishing the Dattatreya summit at dawn. These are spartan and fill up fast, so they suit the hardy rather than the comfort-seeking.

For more choice and comfort, base yourself in Junagadh city, about 6 to 10 km from the trek head, which has a spread of budget and mid-range hotels, better food options and easy transport to Taleti each morning. Whichever you pick, book well ahead around the Bhavnath Fair and the Lili Parikrama, when every bed near the mountain is taken; outside those peaks, walk-in rooms at the base and in town are usually easy to find.
